Brněnský fenomén Lesná

2nd place

Brněnský fenomén Lesná (Lesná the Brno Phenomenon): a housing estate from a time when smart urbanism and better quality mate-rials could speak out to otherwise typified developments of socialist Czechoslovakia. The book by graphic designers Matěj Hanauer and Jakub Novotný is no ordinary paperback and traces the history of the outskirts of Brno with great sensitivity. The grey plans and period photography are made to look fresh with reflective paint, and the notes are technically quoted at the page margins. It is a light book to carry in the hand and great for taking on trips, attractive not just for all lovers of prefabricated buildings.
