The branch on White Mountain was founded by Emperor Ferdinand I (1534). In 1555-1556, a hunting lodge was built here, a two-storey central building based on the plan of a six-pointed star, designed by Archduke Ferdinand of Tyrol (1529-1595), who served as the Czech governor in Prague (1547-1567). M. Aostalli and G. Lucchese, then B. Wohlmut were in charge of the construction. The stucco decoration of the arches of the ground floor from 1556-1560, the first in the Transalpine countries, reached excellent quality. In the first half of the 18th century, the Star suffered from the stay of troops camped in the nature reserve. According to the decision of Emperor Joseph II, the summer palace served as an ammunition depot from 1785, which was abandoned in 1874.
The area also includes the "salla terena" (1558), one of the oldest ballrooms in Bohemia (B. Wohlmut). It was used as a stable during the 18th and 19th centuries, only the torso has survived to the present day.
After the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the summer palace was transferred to the management of Prague Castle (1918). The first major reconstruction took place in 1948-1952 (Pavel Janák). The purpose was to make the building accessible for the Alois Jirásek Museum exhibition. Further reconstructions took place in several stages between 1986 and 2000. Making this Renaissance architectural and historical monument of exceptional quality accessible to a wide range of visitors from the Czech Republic and abroad was the main project of the PNP within the Prague 2000 - European City of Culture program.
On May 25, 2000, the summer palace was reopened to the public with the exhibition "Past and Present". Since 2017, there has been a permanent exhibition dedicated to the founder of the summer palace, Ferdinand II of Tyrol, and architecture. Seasonal exhibitions dedicated to personalities or periods of classical and modern Czech literature and book culture, programs, concerts, conferences and social events are also held here.
